Reaching the National Championships in any sport is a rare feat, but to do it three times is nearly unheard of. Tom Wynn ‘91, was the first Student Prince wrestler to achieve the feat from 1989 to 1991.

Upon his graduation, Tom was second with 91 career wins after proving to be a model of consistency by crossing the 20-win plateau each of his four seasons at the Berg. His win total still holds as the 11th most in program history.

Among those prosperous seasons on the mats, Tom put together two seasons with an .800 or higher winning percentage, including an .808 (21-5) record in 1988.

After graduation, wrestling has continued to be a major part of Tom’s life. His career has included coaching stints at South Dakota State University, Miami of Ohio, The College of Mount St. Joseph (now Mount St. Joseph University) and St. Xavier High School in Cincinnati. At all of these stops, Tom has produced numerous national qualifiers, national champions and high team finishes on the national stage.

Immediately after leaving Heidelberg, Tom spent five years as the men’s tennis coach at Tiffin University, where he met his wife, Trisha Wolshire.

Throughout all of these years coaching, Tom still lists as his greatest accomplishment the birth of his triplet sons while he was at MSJ. He credits his wife for enduring the long nights and weekends during his coaching career.

Currently, Tom has the chance to coach his sons in the great sport of wrestling that has given him so much over the years.
