A native of Akron, Dan Nutter lived most of his life in Canton and attended Jackson High School.

The son of two Heidelberg graduates, Nutter followed them to the Tiffin Campus and graduated from Heidelberg College in 1973.

Lettering four years in football at The 'Berg, Nutter was All-Ohio Conference his senior year and co-captain of the 1972 unbeaten national championship team which finished at 12-0.

In 1972, he was selected among the Outstanding College Athletes of America.

A past president of Excelsior Men's Society, Nutter was the corresponding secretary of his graduating class and was a three-year member of the Heidelberg College Concert Choir.

During his playing days, he was described by one local newspaper columnist, "Nutter wasn't big or overpowering, but he was extremely competitive and he hated to lose.

"This fact and the fact that he loved the game of football, made him a good choice for the co-captain of the 1972 championship team."

In high school, Nutter lettered in football, baseball, and wrestling and was All-League his junior and senior years in football.

His senior season, Nutter was All-Stark County and second team All-Ohio. He was elected to the Jackson Hall of Fame.

Now residing in Defiance, Nutter began his teaching career at Defiance High School in 1973, eventually becoming head of the history department. He also coaches football, track, and wrestling there.

He coached football five years at Defiance College, becoming the defensive coordinator of the football team.

He is also a past trustee of the Defiance YMCA.
