Wayne Stephens spent 27 years as a distinguished member of the Tiffin Police Department, working his way up from patrolman to chief of police, before resigning to become Tiffin's city administrator four years ago.

Wayne entered Heidelberg in September 1966 after a standout high school career at Tiffin Columbian, where he earned the Dad Kernan Sportsmanship Award which was awarded to the athlete demonstrating the most desire to win.

In just two season at The 'Berg, Wayne established himself as a standout on the football and baseball fields.

As a member of The 'Berg football team he set the school record with a 67-yard punt in 1967, a mark that stood 30 years. During the 1967 season, he led the OAC in punting with an average of 39.66 yards. He was a defensive end, defensive back and played on special teams. On the baseball diamond, Wayne finished with a career batting average of .318.

After earning an associate's degree from Tiffin University in 1974, Wayne returned to The 'Berg in 1975, where he graduated with a degree in psychology in 1977.
