OHIO CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME
Heidelberg clinched their seventh conference title with a 24-0 win over Muskingum in the Ohio Conference championship game.
Heidelberg, representing the Red Division, scored on the opening play from scrimmage via a 77-yard touchdown on a screen pass from QB Jim Ruth to TB Mel Tate.
After a Heidelberg field goal from freshman Jim Bartley, Ruth and Tate connected for another score, a 33-yard pass.
Fullback Bob Hunt finished the scoring with a 26-yard touchdown rush in the second quarter.
The Student Princes were relentless on defense, forcing several Muskie turnovers en route to the shutout.
STAGG BOWL - PHENIX CITY, ALABAMA
Heidelberg's defense stymied the vaunted offense of Ft. Valley State College en route to a 28-16 win.
Gary McKillip blocked a punt in the first quarter and George Freeman pounced on it in the end zone to give Heidelberg a lead.
With the score tied in the second quarter, Heidelberg scored a pair of touchdowns. Bob Hunt broke a 45-yard touchdown rush and Jim Ruth found Bill Ernst for a seven-yard touchdown pass.
In the second half, Fort Valley cut the Heidelberg lead to 21-16. The Student Princes ended the scoring with a 44-yard touchdown pass from Ruth to Marty Fanning.
