Heidelberg Athletics Hall of Fame
Nicholas Sanchez ’11 built his Heidelberg career on the mat -- and never really left it behind.
A three-time NCAA National Qualifier, Sanchez advanced to the national championships in 2006, 2007 and 2008 while helping Heidelberg establish itself among the top wrestling programs in the Ohio Athletic Conference.
Over the course of his career, Sanchez amassed 107 victories, a total that remains tied for third in program history. His success came during one of the most accomplished stretches in Heidelberg wrestling history, as the Student Princes emerged as a consistent force within the OAC. He was part of the 2007 ’Berg Wrestling team that was inducted into the Athletics Hall of Fame in 2023.
Sanchez, who never lost an OAC dual bout, was a three-time conference tournament champion, taking the title at 141 pounds in 2006, 2007 and 2008. His dominance helped The Berg win the team title each of those seasons -- the first three of a five-year championship run.
After graduating, he returned to Heidelberg Wrestling as a graduate assistant. Sanchez played a vital role in guiding the Student Princes to OAC regular season titles in 2013 and 2014.
Since leaving Heidelberg, wrestling has remained a major part of Sanchez’s life. He lives in his hometown of Lima, Ohio, with his wife, Morgan, and works as a real estate agent while also owning Team Stomp Fitness and Team Stomp Wrestling, a training facility focused on fitness and athlete development.
Through Team Stomp, Sanchez continues to coach and mentor young wrestlers, helping them develop both on and off the mat. Away from wrestling and work, he enjoys fishing, golfing, working out, watching sports and spending time with family and friends.
