Heidelberg Athletics Hall of Fame
Steve Devine has left a long legacy in the world of football. From his time on the Heidelberg football team to his coaching career that followed, Devine has been successful wherever he has been.
Devine came to the Berg as a part of a rebuilding football program and left on a winning note. He was a three-year starter for the Student Princes and was elected a team captain for his senior season – the first for the late head coach Pete Riesen (HOF '93). Devine was a part of a class of Student Princes who helped pave the way for the National Championship team the year following his graduation.
Following his time in Tiffin, Devine joined the coaching ranks, making multiple stops across the country. He spent time as the offensive line coach for the MAC champion Bowling Green State University football team, an offensive assistant for the PAC-8 and Rose Bowl champion University of Washington football team, and most notably as an assistant coach at The Ohio State University, where he worked under Earle Bruce. During his time with the Buckeyes, Devine helped lead the team to two Big 10 championships as well as titles in the Cotton Bowl, Citrus Bowl and Fiesta Bowl and two appearances in the Rose Bowl.
Since 2001, Devine has worked for the New York Giants as a scout, playing an integral part in the team's Super Bowl titles in 2007 and 2011.
Devine graduated from Heidelberg in 1972 and later earned a master's degree in educational administration from the University of Toledo. He and his wife, Sue, have three children -- a daughter Stephanie (Nathaniel), and two sons, Paul and Connor.
