TIFFIN -- The fastest man in Heidelberg history is headed to nationals in the 100 meter dash.

Heidelberg University sophomore track star Jake McEntyre qualified for the NCAA Division III Championship in Myrtle Beach, S.C., with a time of 10.53. In doing so, the 'Berg record holder becomes the first male to qualify for the 100 in school history. Hall of famer Judi Bataille was Heidelberg's only other 100 qualifier, a feat she accomplished in 2009.

McEntyre's 10.53 came during the OAC Championships, hosted by Heidelberg at H's Track and Hoernemann Stadium. After winning the 100 and finishing second in the 200, he was voted Most Outstanding Male Sprinter of the meet.

In addition to qualifying in the 100, McEntyre missed out on qualifying in the 200 by, quite literally, less than the blink of an eye -- falling 0.02 seconds off the pace.

McEntyre is Heidelberg's first national qualifier since Dan Stoll advanced in the 400 meter dash in 2021.

The preliminary heats for the 100 will take place around 5:45 p.m. on Fri., May 24. The finals take place on Sat., May 25.
