BLUFFTON, Ohio -- The Heidelberg University Baseball team traveled to Bluffton University for a single game on Tuesday, but a line of storms halted play in the bottom of the sixth inning, with HU ahead, 6-3.

The teams agreed that, if another opening in both team's schedules arose, they would meet again -- first to finish this suspended game, then to play an additional contest. If the sides were unable to find another play date, the game would remain as is, with Heidelberg taking the victory.

Here's what shook out on Tuesday:

Heidelberg struck first in the opening inning, as Sam Schneider crossed home plate on a double steal to give the Student Princes an early 1-0 lead. Berg's defense stayed sharp, holding Bluffton scoreless through the first two innings.

In the top of the third, HU's offense came alive. Simeon Betts launched a home run to extend the lead, and later in the inning, Thomas McGuire delivered an RBI double to left field that brought in Grant Bomer. The Beavers responded in the bottom half of the inning, getting on the board to cut into Heidelberg's lead.

Before bad weather halted play in the sixth, Heidelberg added a run in the fifth on an RBI single by McGuire that scored Schneider. Bluffton responded with two runs in the bottom half to make it 4-3. In the sixth inning, Logan Walpole reached on an error and moved to second, and another Bluffton miscue allowed Brayden Tucker to score, extending Berg's lead before the delay.

Heidelberg stays on the road for a doubleheader at Marietta College on Friday. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m., second game to follow.
