BASE slowed by Britons

ALBION, Mich. -- The Heidelberg University baseball team fell to Albion College, 13-7, in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday. The Student Princes dropped to 14-17, while Albion improved to 12-14.

ALBION 13-17-1 | BERG 7-11-3

Albion jumped out early with three runs in the first and added two more in the second to build a 5-1 lead that Heidelberg couldn't overcome, despite steady offensive pressure throughout the game.

In the first inning, Braedy Limke got the Student Princes on the board right away, launching a solo home run to right field for an early 1-0 lead.

To give the Berg a boost in the fourth, Andrew Pokley reached third, and Garrett Labeau grounded out to second to bring him home. Later in the frame, Logan Walpole singled to center, scoring Pokley to cut the Albion lead to 6-3.

Another inning, another hit for Braedy Limke, who continued his strong day with a single to right in the fifth, driving in Trevor McGuire, who had been hit by pitch to start the frame, from third and trimming the deficit to 8-4.

Garrett Labeau crossed the plate on a double play groundout by Trevor McGuire in the sixth inning. Logan Walpole advanced to third on the play as the Student Princes made it 11-5.

In the final frame, Cort Kramer singled to left, bringing in both Sam Schneider and Braedy Limke to close the scoring at 13-7.

Despite a 4-for-5 performance from Limke, which included a home run and two RBIs, The Berg couldn't keep pace with the Britons, who racked up 17 hits and scored in six of eight innings. Four Student Prince pitchers combined to allow 13 runs (10 earned), as Albion pulled away with a three-run fifth and a two-run sixth.

UP NEXT: Heidelberg returns to Ohio Athletic Conference play with a doubleheader against Muskingum on Friday, April 18 at Peaceful Valley. Game one is scheduled for a 1pm start.
