The Heidelberg University Baseball team closed their Florida trip with a much-needed 7-6 victory over Earlham College in 12 innings. Beset by injuries, the Student Princes had the winning run in scoring position in the eighth, ninth, 10th, and the 11th inning before
Sam Schneider scored the winning run in the bottom of the 12th.
Heidelberg improved to 4-6 overall, going 3-4 on their week in Fort Pierce.
Schneider, a freshman, led off the 12th with a bouncing single through the right side -- his fifth hit of the day. An errant throw on a sacrifice bunt allowed
Garrett LaBeau to reach.
Cort Kramer followed with a single to center, loading the bases for
Thomas McGuire. McGuire sent a two-hopper to the drawn-in shortstop, but his throw home pulled the catcher off the plate, allowing Schneider to score.
After a long, frustrating week, the celebration in shallow right field was a sight for sore eyes.
The Student Princes cruised out to a 4-0 lead after three, plating three in the second and one in the third. Earlham scored once in the fourth and tied the game with a three-run sixth.
In the bottom of the seventh, Heidelberg regained the lead with two runs. After walks to Kramer and McGuire,
Orion Kroah delivered an RBI base hit into right field. Two batters later,
Kyle Krummen singled to right, scoring Kramer. Krummen finished with four hits.
The Quakers tied the game in the top of the 8th, scoring twice to knot the game at 6-6.
Like Heidelberg, Earlham had opportunities to go ahead late -- stranding runners in scoring position in the ninth, 10th and 11th.
Logan Franz entered in the 12th and struck out the side, setting HU up for the walk off.

Dylan Matusak went six full innings, allowing four runs (one earned) and six hits. He walked one and fanned nine.
The Student Princes return to action at No. 4 Denison on Wednesday. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
