Box Score TIFFIN, Ohio -- Squaring off for the first time since 2000, the Heidelberg University and Hiram College Baseball teams were locked in a seesaw battle at Peaceful Valley. In the end, the Student Princes emerged with the victory, scoring three times in the ninth to win, 12-11.

Heidelberg moved to 6-9 on the season, while Hiram's record moved to 3-5.

Sam Schneider led off the bottom of the first with a double dropped inside the left field line. After advancing on a fly out, he scored on a base hit to right by Andrew Pokley. Pokley moved to third on a wild pitch that appeared to have hit Garrett LaBeau in the foot, but was not ruled as such on the field. LaBeau lifted a sacrifice fly to left, plating Pokley.

The Berg tacked on two unearned runs in the third. Schneider reached third on an errant throw on a groundball to short, then scored on a sacrifice fly by Braedy Limke. Pokley was hit by a pitch and moved to third on a two-out hit-and-run by LaBeau. Pokley scored on a base hit by Thomas McGuire

Hiram responded with a four-spot in the fourth, tying the game.

Limke walked in the fifth and moved into scoring position on a soft ground out. With one out, LaBeau hit a sharp line drive single to left. Getting a fantastic read on the hit, Limke was able to score with a head-first dive, giving HU back the lead.

The Terriers regained the lead with two unearned runs in the sixth inning, then pushed two across in the seventh.

Down 8-5 in the seventh, Heidelberg roared back. Schneider was hit by a pitch to lead off, then moved up on a single up the middle by Limke. Pokley followed with a single to right, scoring Schneider. With one out, an infield single by McGuire drove in another. HU tied the game at 8-8 when a run scored on a dropped fly ball off the bat of Cort Kramer.

Heidelberg grabbed the lead in the bottom of the eighth.  Limke ripped a one-out double to left and raced home on a two-out single to left center by LaBeau.

Undeterred, Hiram scored three runs in the top of the ninth, taking a two-run advantage.

Down 11-9, The Berg rocked the Valley -- scoring three runs. Kramer walked and moved to second on a two-out single by Kyle Krummen. With a 3-2 count and the runners on the move, Schneider plugged the gap in left center, tying the game. Limke followed with a 3-2 single to right center, plating Schneider and touching off a celebration near first base.

Corbin Caplan (2-0) picked up the win, throwing three pitches to end the top of the ninth.

Heidelberg is scheduled to host Capital University on Saturday for the opening doubleheader of conference action. The weather forecast may force an adjustment, but final decisions have yet to be made.
