TIFFIN – Playing in their final game down at Peaceful Valley this season, the Heidelberg University Baseball team fell to the Fighting Scots of the College of Wooster, 4-2.
The Student Princes were limited to five hits, including two from shortstop
Reece McNeely.
With bases loaded and two outs in the top of the first, Wooster batter Andrew McGowan hit a hard liner to the left side that saw
Braedy Limke make a diving catch to save any runners from scoring.
Adam McVicker put HU on the board first, sending a blistering one-out double to left center, scoring
Aidan Corrigan from first.
After three innings of scoreless baseball, McNeely roped a one-out home run to left field to add to the Heidelberg lead. The Student Princes led 2-0 after five innings.
The visitors' scoring drought ended in the top of the seventh following a wild pitch from Heidelberg that allowed a Wooster runner to score.
Wooster tied the game in the eighth with a lead off triple and a wild pitch. Following a similar script, the Scots led off the ninth with a triple and took the lead on an errant throw on a dropped third strike. They added an insurance run with a two-out double later in the inning.
Down 4-2, the Student Princes had a chance to rally. Despite a walk and two singles, the inning was derailed by a line drive double play. The Scots emerged with the victory.
The Berg was 9-5 at Peaceful Valley in 2024.
Heidelberg is scheduled to visit Manchester on Wednesday for their final non-conference game of the season. The regular season wraps up with a critical doubleheader at Ohio Northern on Saturday.
