NORTH MANCHESTER, Indiana -- In their final non-conference contest of the season, the Heidelberg University Baseball team walloped the Manchester Spartans, 10-0. The Student Princes pounded out 15 hits while
Dylan Matusak,
Logan Franz and
Orion Kroah limited Manchester to four hits.
Scoreless through three innings, Heidelberg broke out in a big way in the fourth. Noted amateur statistician
Aidan Corrigan led off with a double and scored on a base hit by
Adam McVicker. A walk and a single loaded the bases with one out. Two more runs crossed the plate on wild pitches, with another scoring when
Kyle Krummen worked a bases-loaded walk.
Up 4-0, Heidelberg doubled their lead in the fifth.
Theo Walsh and
Braedy Limke ignited the four-run outburst with singles, with Corrigan reaching on an error in between. Vicker drove in Walsh with a groundout, then Cook re-loaded the bases with a single to the pitcher. Garrett Labeau earned an RBI with a walk, then
Andrew Pokley added an RBI fielder's choice.
Reece McNeely closed the scoring with a single up the middle, plating Cook.
McNeely and Krummen tacked on run-scoring singles in the ninth, running the HU lead up to double digits.
Matusak allowed two hits in six innings of work, walking none and striking out seven. Franz yielded two hits in two innings before Kroah worked a 1-2-3 ninth.
The shutout was Heidelberg's third of the season.
The regular season concludes on Saturday with a doubleheader at Ohio Northern. With a sweep, Heidelberg will clinch a spot in next weekend's four-team OAC Tournament.
