Baseball takes care of Westminster on the road

NEW WILMINGTON, PA. - The Heidelberg University Baseball team traveled to Westminster College on Wednesday for a midweek single game against the Titans. A five-run fifth inning for the Student Princes helped vault them to an 8-1 victory.

Dylan Matusak got the nod for Heidelberg on the mound, going five innings, giving up one run on four hits while striking out five. Vincent Marimpietri got three innings of work giving up just one hit and struck out two. Nicolas Lavelle came in and only needed eight pitches to close out the game with a scoreless ninth.

Braedy Limke and Reece McNeely both tallied two hits while Andrew Cook notched three while also adding three RBI. Camden Farley had three RBIs of his own while Kyle Mottice added two.

Limke started things off for the Student Princes with a lead-off triple to center field. Farley was able to get him across the dish after grounding out to second base. HU took the early 1-0 lead.

Both teams went scoreless until the fifth as Heidelberg plated six in the inning. Cort Kramer started the inning with a walk to give HU an early base runner. McNeely followed with a bunt single, putting Kramer in scoring position.

Kramer and McNeely advanced on a failed pick-off from the Titans. Mottice tallied his first RBI of the game after grounding out but that allowed Kramer to come home. A Limke bloop double moved McNeely over, setting up a Farley single that scored two. Cook then doubled, scoring Adam McVicker and Farley, making it 6-0 after five.

Westminster got a run back in the sixth, but that was their only score of the game.

The Berg added two more runs, one in the seventh off a Cook single to center field that scored Aidan Corrigan. In the eighth, a Mottice single allowed McNeely to come across the plate to seal the 8-1 win for Heidelberg.
