Box Score TIFFIN -- The Heidelberg University baseball team dropped a non-conference contest with Concordia University Chicago on a brisk Saturday afternoon at Peaceful Valley. The Cougars beat the Student Princes, 9-4.
Heidelberg dropped to 12-15 overall.
The Cougars struck first with two runs in the top of the third.
Cayden Rollins led off the fifth with a single through the left side, then stole second. A nifty slide by Rollins on a play at third put runners on the corners.
Seth Scoville delivered a solid single to left that plated a run. A misplayed line drive off the bat of
Deaunte Fleming loaded the bases with one out.
Adam McVicker drove in Kuhns with a fielder's choice, tying the game at 2-2.
In the seventh, Concordia took a lead with a four-run outburst. Heidelberg, however, got half of them back in the bottom of the inning.
Fleming reached on a fielder's choice and scored on a two-out double to right by
Camden Farley. Farley came around to score on a bouncer through the middle by
Keaton Mark.
Heidelberg squandered a golden opportunity to tie the game in the bottom of the eighth. HU had runners on second and third with no outs, but were unable to push across any runs.
Concordia added three runs in the top of the ninth, taking a 9-4 lead.
Senior
Ryan Keane, making his first career start, allowed two runs on five hits. He struck out four batters. Though the Cougars roughed up the 'Berg bullpen, freshman
Nicolas Lavelle threw two innings of scoreless relief.
After the Easter break, Heidelberg is back in action on Tuesday at John Carroll. The doubleheader with the Blue Streaks is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.
