TIFFIN, Ohio -- The Heidelberg University women's basketball team suffered a 89-58 loss at the hands of Mount Union on Friday evening. The Student Princes fell despite having four players reach double figures.
Heidelberg dropped to 1-6 on the season while Mount Union improved to 3-4.
Karlee Mills led the Student Princes scoring efforts with 13 points on 62% from the floor.
Clara Smith was 3-4 from beyond the arc and finished with 11 points.
Brooke Beamer also had 11 points, while
Bailey Walter finished with 10.
Mount Union used a big run at the start of each half to control the pace of the contest. The Purple Raiders stretched out an early lead 9-0 in the first quarter and carried it to a 22-13 score at the end of 10 minutes.
Heidelberg found some momentum late in the second quarter with an 11-4 run heading into halftime, trailing 41-28.
Up 13 at halftime, Mount Union escalated its lead further in the third quarter with a 13-0 run spanning the opening three minutes of the second half. Like they did in the second quarter, the Student Princes finished the third quarter with a strong showing -- an 11-3 run over the final three minutes of the period.
Mount Union outscored The Berg in the fourth quarter, 26-13.
The Purple Raiders dominated the rebound category in the second half, leading Heidelberg 31-9. Mount Union also scored 22 second-chance points off of their abundance of rebounds. The visitors tallied 44 points in the paint and 15 off of fast breaks. Both teams' benches contributed major points with 28 coming from Heidelberg's bench and 32 from the Mount Union reserves.
Heidelberg will travel to Alliance tomorrow evening for a rematch with Mount Union. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
