CINCINNATI, Ohio -- The Heidelberg University women's basketball team suffered a 13-point setback on the road, falling to Mount St. Joseph, 72-59. The Student Princes struggled to contain preseason All-American Maggie Haberthy, who had 29 points, seven rebounds and five assists.
Hallie Rogers led Heidelberg (1-4) with 12 points, adding seven rebounds.
Bailey Walter had 10 points on 5-of-8 shooting.
Ashley Ballard had a game-high nine boards and a team-high five assists for the Student Princes.
The Student Princes held a modest 5-0 lead to open the game, but the Lions responded with an 8-0 run of their own. Late 3-pointers gave MSJ a 16-10 lead after one.
The Lions (2-2) led by 14 midway through the second quarter, but Heidelberg battled back. The Tricolor cut the deficit to seven before MSJ ended the half on a 6-0 run.
The hosts maintained a double-digit lead throughout the second half, though The Berg did enjoy a 9-0 stretch late in the fourth.
The Student Princes were outscored in points off of turnovers by a 28-11 spread, but the Heidelberg bench outscored the MSJ reserves, 25-2.
Heidelberg returns home to face Bluffton on Tuesday. Tipoff in Seiberling Gymnasium is scheduled for 7 p.m.
