Berg Bested by Bluffton

Tiffin, OH – The Heidelberg University women's basketball team dropped a Tuesday night non-conference tilt to Bluffton University, 64-51.

The lose moves the Student Princes to 1-5 overall, while the Beavers improve to 2-1.

The Berg captured four-point advantage in the first frame, 14-10, but a 23-point second-quarter surge from the Beavers put the Berg behind at the break, 33-29.

Following the break, the tri-color battled back to cut the deficit to three, 42-45, heading into the fourth quarter. The Berg offense struggled in the final frame while a 19-point performance from Bluffton, was enough to hold off the hopes of a Berg comeback.

Junior Lily Sweeney led the Berg's effort on Tuesday night with 13 points on 5-of-16 (31.3%) shooting. The Sylvania native also collected six rebounds, one assists, one block and one steal. First year forward Melanie Koenig dropped a season-high 11 points (5-of-11, 45.5%) in the loss to accompany her three boards, two assists and one steal.

Morgan Altenburger led the Berg defensively with eight rebounds, followed by Sweeney and Berg leading scorer Bailey Walter with six. Walter registered four points against the Beavers.

The Berg women return to action on Wednesday, December 1, when they open the 2021-22 Ohio Athletic Conference schedule against Baldwin Wallace University.

Tipoff between the Student Princes and Yellow Jackets is slated for 7 p.m. inside Seiberling Gymnasium.
