Bexley, Ohio -- The Heidelberg University women's basketball team gave Head Coach
Rachel Ferri her first win with the Student Princes with a 61-54 victory over Capital University. The Student Princes trailed early but a big third quarter and a late surge propelled them past the Crusaders on the road.

Heidelberg led the early portion of the quarter before a 10-0 run by Capital tipped the advantage in the final four minutes of the frame. The Student Princes struggled from distance, only scoring one of four three point attempts in the opening period.
The Student Princes used the second quarter to close the gap slightly, heading to the socially-distanced meeting room (AKA locker room) down 29-27.
The third quarter was a breakout one for the Student Princes, shooting 50% from the floor and 40% from three point range Heidelberg took the lead, Beamer led the charge with 12 points in the quarter.
The Student Princes capped off the win in the fourth quarter. A 14-2 run late in the game gave Heidelberg the final lead of the contest. Trailing 52-47 with seven minutes left, an
Alyssa Martin layup was sandwiched between jumpers by Beamer -- giving HU a 53-52 advantage. The big bucket down the stretch was a 3-pointer by Beamer from the left side off a feed from Kilps with 2:32 remaining.

Three Takeaways

Brooke Beamer finally had some luck on her side. After two games of near misses, the 'Berg senior broke through with a 23-point effort.
2.
Hannah Kilps also seemed much more comfortable. Shouldering a heftier load with this year's team, the senior had nine points and two assists.
3.
Kirsten Kochel offered big minutes (26, in fact), grabbing seven boards and hitting five of her six attempts from the line.
