BEXLEY -- The Heidelberg University women's basketball team lost on the road at Capital University on Wednesday.  The Crusaders found their stride midway through the first and never stumbled.  The final score was 85-42.
Heidelberg slipped to 8-14 overall, 4-11 in the OAC.
Alli Adelsperger and
Brittanie Ulmer each had eight points to lead the attack.
Maddy Crawford and
Bailey Walter each had seven rebounds.
A
Brooke Beamer jumper midway through the first gave Heidelberg a 12-7 lead.  Capital, though, closed the frame on a 13-3 run and led by five after one.
The hosts carried that momentum into the second quarter, outscoring the Student Princes 24-15 and led by 14.
Four straight points by
Alli Adelsperger early in the third helped HU cut the deficit down to 10.  Again, however, Capital answered with another sizeable surge -- this time, a 16-0 run that seemed to halt any hopes of a big road win for Heidelberg.  Cap led 64-40 after three.
In the fourth quarter, the reserves ate up valuable varsity minutes.
Shooting woes plagued the Student Princes throughout the contest.  HU hit 15-of-57 (26.3 percent) from the floor including 2-of-17 (11.8 percent) from beyond the arc.
Capital was led by an 18-point night from Elli Wachtman.
The Student Princes remain on the road on Saturday, traveling to Alliance to battle Mount Union.  Playing the first half of a doubleheader, tipoff for the women's team is scheduled for 1 p.m.
