LOOKING BACK AT GAME SEVEN ...
Any attempt at an upset victory over No. 2 Mount Union for the Heidelberg University football team went out the window after Mother Nature delivered a rain-soaked afternoon that significantly altered game plans for the Student Princes.
In the 27-0 loss, the Berg did however hold Mount Union to their lowest total yardage in a game since September 22, 2018. As well, the 27 points was the first time Heidelberg allowed 27 or less points against the Purple Raiders since 1994.
The Berg was held to a season-low 151 yards which included 106 on the ground.
Tayy Yearby rushed for 57 yards on 25 attempts, while reserve QB
Wendell Morrison added 48 yards on five rushes late in the game. Throwing the ball,
Jimmy Gephart was limited to just 45 yards on six connections. Gephart did throw one pick as well.
Defensively, Heidelberg was led by a 12-tackle effort from Zach Blackiston which also included a fumble recovery.
Elijah Brechbill and
Verondtae Wilkinson were each credited with forced fumbles while
Dylan Marder intercepted a pass from D'Angelo Fulford.
Mount Union took advantage of the ground game, handing the ball off 58 times for 269 yards rushing. 41 of those attempts, and 194 yards went to Josh Petruccelli. The fullback also was responsible for three of the Mount touchdowns. Backup tailback DeAndre Parker accounted for the other score which came on one of his nine carries for 46 yards on the day. Defensively, the Purple Raiders were led by 14 tackles from Trey Williams and an interception from Harry Bowker.
