Box Score 2 MARIETTA -- Two late-inning rallies cost the Heidelberg University baseball team, as it was swept by Marietta College on Friday afternoon. A walkoff grand slam gave the Pioneers an 8-7 win in game one, followed by a 3-1 MC victory in the nightcap.
With the losses, Heidelberg falls to 15-12, 5-5 in conference play. Marietta improves to 12-11, 7-3 OAC.
Cory Jacobs led the Student Prince offense with five hits on the day and drove in two runs. Alex Manner chipped in with three hits and 2 RBI.
GAME ONE: Marietta 8 Heidelberg 7
Down 1-0 in the third, Heidelberg drew even on a solo home run to right by senior Evan Long.
In the fourth, Alex Manner put the Student Princes on top with a run-scoring single up the middle to plate Cory Jacobs.
It remained 2-1 until the Pioneers scored three in the bottom of the sixth.
HU got one back in the top of the seventh on a solo homer by catcher Joe Walton.
In the eighth, two-out singles by Manner and Darrin Shirk scored a pair, putting The Berg up 5-4.
The Student Princes added two insurance runs in the ninth on a two-run single by Jacobs.
Three walks in the bottom of the ninth provided Eric White with the opportunity to play the role of hero. The senior didn't disappoint -- blasting a walk-off grand slam to right. It was his first career home run.
Marietta only managed three hits in the game, but capitalized on 10 walks issued by the Tricolor.
Starter Anthony Hajdu went 5.1 innings, giving up three earned runs on two hits and six walks. Marc Ochoa worked 1.2 innings of hitless relief. Alex Simun, after working a scoreless eighth, departed after two walks in the ninth. Zach Doran (2-3) took the loss after allowing the grand slam.
GAME TWO: Marietta 3 Heidelberg 1
The Student Princes jumped out to a 1-0 in the first. Joey Rydzewski was hit by a pitch and moved to second on a single by Manner. He would score on a single through the left side by Jacobs.
The Pioneers evened the score in the sixth with a single combined with a throwing error.
A leadoff double and a sac bunt put a runner at third with one out for Marietta in the eighth. Shane Fetsko singled through the left side to give the home team a 2-1 advantage. Fetsko would end up scoring the third MC run when he was forced home via bases loaded walk.
Freshman Cameron Deemer (1-1) pitched 7.1 innings, scattering nine hits. Marietta's Scott Oberhelman (3-1) pitched a complete game, giving up five hits and fanning five.

The Student Princes will travel to John Carroll University (11-16, 4-6 OAC) on Wednesday for an OAC twinbill. First pitch of game one is slated for 1 p.m.
