Box Score PUNTA GORDA, Florida -- The Heidelberg University baseball team didn't record a hit after taking a 3-2 lead in third inning on Sunday. Yet, the Student Princes managed to scratch across six more runs on their way to a 9-4 win over Mitchell College. The game featured a stunning 25 walks between the two teams.
Heidelberg improved to 2-1 on the season while Mitchell slipped to 3-2.
Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the third inning, HU broke out for a three-spot. Marc Ochoa drew a one-out walk and moved to third on a double into the right field corner by Darrin Shirk. With the first baseman playing back, Joey Rydzewski pushed a bunt down the line for an RBI single. A sacrifice bunt by Alex Manner put two in scoring position for Adam Hershberger. After a wild pitch brought in Shirk, Hershberger served a single to right, plating Rydzewski.
The Mariners answered with a pair in the fourth off of HU starter Alex Sir Louis, who went 3.1 innings.
The Student Princes bounced back in the sixth inning. Ochoa drew a leadoff walk and scampered to third on two wild pitches. He scored on a fielder's choice by Rydzewski. Later, Rydzewski scored on a sacrifice fly by Hershberger, giving HU a 5-4 lead -- with both runs coming without the aid of a hit.
The Tricolor added three more runs in the seventh, despite not having a hit. Manner walked and stole two bases. After Cory Jacobs walked and Matt Psychas was hit by a pitch, Manner scored on a wild pitch. With two outs, Joey Wenning sent a bouncer to third. The throw across the diamond sailed into foul ground, allowing two runs to cross the plate.
For good measure, the Berg added a run in the eighth, thanks to walks and wild pitches. Shirk walked, stole second and advanced to third on a sac bunt. Shirk would score on a wild pitch.
Brady Ansara picked up the win in his collegiate debut. Ansara worked 3.2 innings, allowing just two hits. Zach Doran threw two innings of scoreless relief to close out the game.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
Rydzewski and Hershberger each had two RBI.
After stealing seven bases on Saturday, the Student Princes took four more on Sunday -- including three by Manner.
Heidelberg batters have drawn 24 walks through the first three games of the season.

Head coach Chad Fitzgerald on Ansara and Doran out of the bullpen: "It was really good to see those two come out strong in their college debuts ... They were able to throw strikes on a day that it wasn't very easy to do that ... They are the reason we won the game."
