TIFFIN -- A rough day at Peaceful Valley ended with the Heidelberg University Baseball team getting swept by conference foe Capital. HU surrendered a late lead in the opener, falling 5-4, then lost the nightcap, 12-1.
Heidelberg dropped to 13-13 overall, 4-4 in the OAC. Capital improved to 15-11, 4-4.
GAME ONE: BERG 5-10-3 CAP 4-6-3
Jack McKelley lifted a sacrifice fly in the second, scoring
Thomas McGuire with the game's first run.
The game remained 1-0 until Capital scored an unearned run in the seventh.
Heidelberg responded immediately, with
Grant Bomer breaking the tie with an RBI single to center that drove in
Brayden Tucker.
Braedy Limke doubled, plating
Sam Schneider and Bomer.
Capital stunned the Student Princes, hanging four on the board in the eighth.
Down one, HU was unable to equalize.
Logan Walpole allowed one run in seven innings of work. He struck out three.
GAME TWO: CAP 12-16-1 BERG 1-5-1
Capital's patient approach at the plate yielded 16 hits and 12 walks.
Heidelberg was limited to five hits, scoring their lone run on a fielder's choice in the ninth.
