TIFFIN, Ohio. -- The Heidelberg University Baseball team swept OAC foe Wilmington College in a Sunday doubleheader in Peaceful Valley, The Student Princes won the opener in seven innings 12-2, then took the nightcap, 12-6.
Heidelberg moved to 12-9 overall, 3-1 in the OAC.Â
GAME ONE: Â BERG 12-13-1 Â WILM 2-7-2
Behind a relentless offensive attack and a huge five-run inning, the Student Princes dismantled the Quakers 12-2 in the first game of Sunday afternoon. The Berg set the tone early, scoring two runs in the opening inning, before erupting to five runs in the third to take firm control. HU continued to build its lead with two runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth, showcasing a strong defense in the first ball game.Â
Heidelberg finished with 13 hits and eight walks in a well-rounded effort at the plate.
Grant Bomer paced the offense with a standout game, going 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBI's.
Sam Schneider added two hits, two runs scored, and an RBI, while
Logan Winstead recorded two hits and drove in a pair.
Braedy Limke also contributed with two hits, two runs, and an RBI.Â
On the mound,
Logan Walpole was in control, earning the win after throwing six innings and allowing just one run on four hits while striking out six.
Shane Jones came on in relief to close out the first game of the day.Â
Wilmington was limited to two runs on seven hits.Â
GAME TWO: Â BERG 12-11-6 Â WILM 6-11-3
Down 5-1 in the third, Heidelberg put a five-spot on the board. The Student Princes had six hits in the inning, including an RBI triple from Winstead, and RBI doubles from Walpole and Jameson Oleson, and RBI singles from
Brayden Tucker and Schneider.Â
Knotted at six in the sixth, Walpole delivered a clutch two-out, two-run single to right center, plating Limke and Schneider. Â
With HU hunting for insurance runs in the seventh, Betts and Schneider drew walks. After the pair advanced on a wild pitch, Wilmington elected to intentionally walk Limke. Winstead followed with a grand slam to left. Â
Wilmington was held scoreless in the final two innings. Â
