Burton named OAC Hitter of the Week

3/23/2026 2:41:00 PM

WESTERVILLE -- Heidelberg University Softball player Alexis Burton was named the Ohio Athletic Conference Hitter of the Week on Monday, as announced by the conference. The honor is the first of Burton's career, and Heidelberg Softball's first honoree of the season.

Burton, a freshman from Marion, was 10-for-19 (.526) in six games last week, helping Heidelberg to a 5-1 record. She drove in 11 runs, hitting two doubles and three home runs.

All three homers came in a road sweep of Bluffton on Thursday. Burton, who lis tied for the league lead in longballs, hit solo shots in the opener (the latter of which capped a back-to-back-to-back homer spree) and a grand slam in the nightcap.

While Burton was the player selected, the honor could have just as easily gone to Cara Meyer, who hit .565 with 10 rbi, four doubles and a homer, or Ellie Tressler, who drove in 13 runs and hit .500.

As a team, Heidelberg is hitting .370. Now 12-4 on the season, the Student Princes are off to their best start since the 2016 campaign.

Burton and company return to action on Wednesday for a twinbill at Adrian College. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
