ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Heidelberg University Women's Basketball team battled for all four quarters, but came up short in an 82-45 setback at Mount Union on Wednesday night in Alliance.
The Student Princes got off to a strong start, trading early baskets before the Purple Raiders used a late first-quarter run to take a 24-12 lead after one. Mount Union continued to build momentum in the second, stretching the advantage to 46-21 at halftime despite Heidelberg's continued effort on both ends of the floor.
Heidelberg opened the third quarter with renewed energy, highlighted by baskets from
Abby Tier and
Mya Jones, but Mount Union answered with a flurry of three-pointers to regain control. The Purple Raiders outscored the Student Princes 24-12 in the period to take a commanding lead into the final frame.
The Student Princes refused to back down in the fourth, matching Mount Union with 12 points over the final 10 minutes.
Tori See scored eight of her team-high 14 points in the second half, while Jones and
Hannah Hunt helped close the game with strong defensive possessions and trips to the free-throw line.
See led Heidelberg with 14 points, while Tier and Jones added eight points apiece. Jones also pulled down a team-high five rebounds off the bench.
Heidelberg returns home for a double-header against Wilmington, following the men's team at 3 p.m.
