Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Jones blocks five shots in loss to Pioneers

TIFFIN -- Tori See had 10 points and 16 rebounds and Mya Jones swatted five shots, but the Heidelberg University Women's Basketball team was tripped up at home by Marietta College, 84-46.

See's 16 rebounds were the most by a Student Prince this year. The five blocks for Jones were the most by a Heidelberg player since Alyssa Martin stopped six shots against Wooster in 2022.

The Pioneers were held scoreless for the first 3+ minutes of action, but built a double-digit lead by the end of the quarter.

As they have all year, the youthful Student Princes played exceptionally well during portions of the game. The final minute of the first quarter and the first two minutes of the second saw The Berg close an 11-point gap down to two. The run featured three of Jones' five blocks, a layup from Olivia Nolting, a free throw from Priya Mericle, a layup by Brenna Williams, and an in-your-eye 3-pointer from Evie Burke. The run prompted a timeout from the Marietta bench.

The Pioneers responded well, and took a large lead into halftime.

Heidelberg struggled to consistently beat a full-court press by Marietta, leading to a disparity in points off turnovers.  But the young Student Princes continued to play hard for the full 40 minutes, gaining valuable experience in the face of extraordinary adversity.

Jones finished with eight points and 12 rebounds.  All 10 healthy 'Berg players scored a point in the contest.

HU faces a tall task on Wednesday, traveling to No. 20 Baldwin Wallace on Wednesday. Tipoff in Berea is slated for 7 p.m.
