2025 Season Preview: Women's Soccer

8/25/2025 11:16:00 AM

TIFFIN –  The Heidelberg University Women's Soccer team continues to build on the momentum from last season, having high expectations for their upcoming 2025 season. They are hungry for another shot at the OAC tournament.

THE COACHES:
At the helm of the program, Madalynn McLaughlin returns for her fifth season as head coach and sixth overall season with Heidelberg. Returning with her is Aly Brugh for her second year as a graduate assistant coach, while earning her Master's in Counseling. Liz Cusato joins The Berg as the new assistant coach, after spending time coaching at the semi-professional, collegiate, and youth/club levels.

THE ROSTER:
The team's three captains are seniors Brigid Enright, Olivia Perry, and Baylie Phillips

Last season, Enright was named 2024 OAC Goalkeeper of the Year. Appearing in and starting all 19 games, she recorded 114 saves with 10 shutouts, ranking in the top 15 nationally.

A 2024 All-OAC honoree, Perry has been a strong force defensively since her freshman year, playing almost every single game for The Berg. She returns for her senior season driven to leave her mark.

Phillips -- believed to be the first legacy player in program history -- appeared in 11 games last season, recording one assist and two shots, earning one point.

Now a sophomore, Brianna Braatz was named the 2024 OAC Freshman of the Year — the first player in program history to receive the honor — after an impressive debut season. Braatz logged three game winning goals, tied for a team high nine goals and six assists, and started all 19 games last year.

The team roster consists of 33 women; 11 freshmen, nine sophomores, six juniors, and seven seniors.

THE SCHEDULE:
The Student Princes will open up their season at Geneseo Aug. 29th. Their home opener game will be held on Sept. 6 against Wooster at 5 p.m. Conference play will begin on Oct. 4 at 2 p.m., where the girls will face off at Wilmington College.

IN THE POLLS:
Heidelberg Women's Soccer was voted fifth in the OAC Women's Soccer Pre-Season Poll. With a 3-2-4 Conference record last season, the team has something to prove and is up for the challenge.

QUOTES FROM McLAUGHLIN:
"We are extremely excited for this season, as we have a very strong returning team as well as tons of talented players in our freshman class that are pushing the standard and challenging the veteran players from the start. The squad is all-in with our vision and hungry for more. Though we had a successful season last year, we are not satisfied with that, and the work they have put in shows just how dedicated this group is to each other and this program. Our sights are set, and we are ready to get to work as we challenge ourselves with a hard non-conference and gear up for OAC play."
