MARIETTA -- The Heidelberg University Baseball team dropped a doubleheader at Marietta College on Saturday, falling 4-3 in 10 innings and 11-3. The Student Princes dropped to 14-23 overall, 6-10 in the OAC.
Down 3-0 in the fourth inning of the opener, Heidelberg tied the game with a three-run outburst. With two on and no one out,
Garrett LaBeau put down a sac bunt. The throw to first was off the mark, allowing
Braedy Limke and
Braden Keeney to score. Later in the inning,
Logan Walpole delivered the game-tying RBI single.
With starter
Dylan Matusak and reliever
Orion Kroah locked in, the game remained tied at three into the 10th. Marietta used three hits to win the game.
Matusak allowed three runs on six hits in 6.2 innings of work. Kroah threw the remainder, giving up one run.
The Pioneers pulled away late in the night cap, scoring seven of their 11 runs in the final three innings.
Heidelberg had an RBI single in the fourth inning from
Thomas McGuire to cut their deficit to 3-1. Run-scoring singles from McGuire and Keeney in the sixth brought HU to within one at 4-3.
The Student Princes will host Calvin on Tuesday for a single game at 4 p.m.
