BLUFFTON -- The Heidelberg University Women's Soccer team moved to 4-1-1 on the season after pulling away late in a 3-0 win at Bluffton University on Tuesday. Ella Jacobs, who came into preseason camp as a goalie, scored the final two goals for the Student Princes.
Â
In the 38th minute of a scoreless game, Syd Hewer sailed a beautiful cross into the box from the right corner. Though it was just out of reach of a leaping Brianna Braatz, Mallory Zavatchen collected the loose ball, took a touch, then struck it well with her right foot. Â
Â
Though Heidelberg had the better of play through the entire game, the Beavers remained close and knocked on the door several times.Â
Â
Thirsty for an insurance goal, Jacobs struck gold in the 68th minute. Collecting a Bluffton turnover in the midfield forced by Yaniah Powell, Jacobs dribbled into space and hit a low line drive shot from more than 20 yards out that snuck inside the left post.Â
Â
On a counterattack in the 80th minute, Zavatchen deftly played a pass back to Jacobs, trailing the rush. All alone, Jacobs rifled a shot into the net. Â
Â
Brigid Enright picked up the clean sheet -- her third of the season -- making five saves. In front of her, the fullbacks continued to control traffic, making it a difficult evening for the Beavers.  Â

The Student Princes return home to Hidden Valley on Sept. 21st., where they will welcome Geneva College. Saturday's game is Senior Day for the 'Berg. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.Â
