TIFFIN -- The Heidelberg University Women's Soccer team improved to 5-1-1 on Senior Day after netting three goals against Geneva on Saturday.
Brianna Braatz scored two goals and
Caitlyn Cross added one of her own in the 3-1 victory.
Braatz scored her first goal in the 19th minute, outrunning the Golden Tornadoes defense and beating the keeping in a 1-v-1. She gave the Berg an early 1-0 lead.
To get things going in the second half, it was
Caitlyn Cross in the 54th minute with a perfectly placed goal, assisted by
Baylie Phillips. Off a corner kick, the ball bounced to Cross atop the penalty area. Turning and firing quickly, her right-footed shot somehow avoided two defenders on its way to goal.
Just minutes later, Braatz netted her second of the day. Running into space down the right side, she deftly cut back toward the middle, evading a defender. She beat the keeper to the near post, giving The Berg a 3-0 lead in the 62nd minute.
Geneva would score their lone goal in the 84th minute to make the game 3-1.
The Berg outshot the Golden Tornadoes 11-5, and recorded four saves on the day.
Braatz leads the team with five goals -- including two multi-goal games in her first six collegiate contests.
Heidelberg will return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 25th when they welcome Oberlin College to town. That match will take place at Hoernemann Stadium at 7 p.m.
