NEW CONCORD -- The Heidelberg University Baseball team snapped a seven-game conference skid, salvaging a split at Muskingum on Saturday. The Muskies pummeled the Student Princes in the opener, 14-2, but HU rebounded for a 13-9 win in the night cap.
Heidelberg improved to 20-12 overall, 7-7 in the OAC. Â
GAME ONE: MUSKIES 14-15-0 Â BERG 2-5-4
The Muskies were in complete control throughout the game, yielding two sacrifice flies to HU. The hosts were bolstered by two four-run innings. Â
Aidan Corrigan had two of Heidelberg's five hits.Â
GAME TWO: BERG 13-12-2 Â MUSKIES 9-17-5
It wasn't pretty, but it worked. Heidelberg amassed 12 hits, drew 12 walks, and were the beneficiaries of five Muskingum errors.Â
HU struck for four in the first. Corrigan doubled,
Camden Farley walked, and
Adam McVicker singled to load the bases. Garrett Labeau and
Theo Walsh drew walks, forcing across two runs.
Reece McNeely delivered a two-out single, plating two more runs. Â
After Muskingum answered with a run, HU countered with one in the second on back-to-back doubles by Farley and McVicker.Â
Up 5-4 in the third, the Student Princes responded with two in the third. Undaunted, the Muskies scored on the third and two in the fourth, tying the topsy-turvy game at 7-7. Â
A sacrifice fly and a throwing error helped Heidelberg regain the lead with two runs in the top of the fifth. It remained 9-7 until the seventh. Hits by Limke, Farley and McVicker gave HU two insurance runs.Â
Two more bases-loaded walks in the eighth plated two additional runs for Heidelberg, which led 13-9 after eight. Â
In the ninth,
Orion Kroah (S, 1) relieved
Corey Brafford with one out and two on. Kroah earned the save by inducing a game-enidng 6-4-3 double play. Â Brafford (W, 4-1) threw 5.1 innings of relief, striking out six.
Walsh was 3-for-3 with three runs scored.
