Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

One Lause PK is the difference for WSOC

NEW CONCORD, Ohio -- The Heidelberg University Women's Soccer team kicked off the Ohio Athletic Conference slate with a clutch 1-0 win on the road at Muskingum.  The game, designated as the OAC Game of the Week, was a hard-fought battle throughout.  The difference was a penalty kick goal late in the first half.

The Student Princes improved to 3-3-2 overall, 1-0 in the OAC. The Muskies slipped to 2-6-2.

With just under two minutes left in a scoreless first half, Yaniah Powell played a pass in the box intended for Raigan Staup. Staup was tripped in the top corner of the penalty area, drawing a whistle.  From the spot, Madi Lause slotted the penalty kick past a diving goalkeeper.  Lause's fourth goal of the season put HU ahead 1-0.

Muskingum levied seven of their 11 shots in the second half, desperate for an equalizer. But each time, goalkeeper Brigid Enright and her defensive front weathered the attack.

In the end, Lause's goal was enough for Heidelberg -- now winners of their last seven matches against the fearsome fish.

Enright had three saves on the night.

Heidelberg returns to action at home on Wednesday. The Student Princes welcome John Carroll to Hidden Valley for a 4 p.m. contest.
