TIFFIN -- The Heidelberg University Women's Soccer team fought valiantly, but dropped its first OAC contest of the year on Wednesday afternoon. The Student Princes were defeated by John Carroll University, 2-1.
HU slipped to 3-4-2 overall, 1-1 in conference play. JCU improved to 6-1-2, 2-0.
Emily Patrzyk had both of the tallies for the Blue Streaks, scoring in the 29th minute on a rebound and in the 64th minute off a centering feed from Alli Malinky.
Heidelberg got on the board in the 76th minute.
Megan Hamilton lofted in a corner kick from the right side that was mishandled by the JCU goalkeeper. With a small army of players from both teams trying to gather the loose ball,
Chloe Grevious took a shot that battered the left post. The carom came to the edge of the penalty area where
Makenzie Damsa one-timed it in before defenders closed in.
Despite two more corner kicks and a few more opportunities, HU was unable to find an equalizer.
JCU outshot Heidelberg, 24-7, and held a 14-4 edge in shots on goal.
Veteran goalkeeper
Meredith Bruce made 12 saves.
Heidelberg hosts Mount Union on Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Hidden Valley Soccer Complex.
