OBERLIN, Ohio – On a wet and slippery field, the Heidelberg University women's soccer team was outmatched by Oberlin College Wednesday night, falling 2-1. In the loss, freshman
Alayna Hahn found her first collegiate goal.
Absorbing a lot of pressure from the home team, a counterattack in the box was what secured Heidelberg's only goal of the night.
With just under six minutes left in the half,
Makenzie Damsa chased down the ball on a long pass from
Madi Lause at midfield. An initial Yeowomen save put the ball back in play, where Hahn found an easy tap-in, enjoying a 1-0 lead.
Five minutes into the second half, Oberlin found their way on the board from a free kick on the far side of the box to tie it up 1-1. Later, the hosts scored the game-winning goal on a cross that was shot over the head of Heidelberg goalie,
Brigid Enright.
In goal the full time, Enright tallied seven saves. The sophomore has amassed 34 on the season, fourth most in the OAC.
'Berg women's soccer will travel to New Concord on Saturday for the OAC opener against Muskingum, slated for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
