PUNTA GORDA, Florida – Day two of the Snowbird Classic saw the Heidelberg baseball team take on Swarthmore College in a doubleheader. Game one was a lopsided affair with the Garnet winning 10-0. In game two, HU failed to capitalize on a few chances with runners in scoring position resulting in a 4-3 loss.

Both teams were scoreless going into the third inning of play. But Swarthmore struck first when Emmet Reynolds singled to center field allowing two runners to come across the plate making it 2-0.
The bottom half of the third started with a Reece McNeeley single with
Kyle Krummen following with a walk. Both were able to swipe a base putting runners in scoring position with no outs. HU was unable to garner any runs leaving two guys on.
The Student Princes uncharacteristically struggled on defense with eight total errors. Swarthmore was able to capitalize putting up three multiple run innings helping them to a 10-0 victory.
Corbin Caplan got the start for the Orange and Black going 5.1 innings. He gave up five runs on nine hits and also struck out three in the loss.

Heidelberg got on the board first when an
Aidan Corrigan single allowed
Andrew Pokley to come across the plate for The Berg.
Swarthmore would get a run back and tie things up in the home half of the third following an HU error.
In the top of the sixth, a McVicker single and a Corrigan walk would get HU in scoring position with one out in the inning. Following a strikeout,
Cort Kramer hit into a fielder's choice that resulted in a Swarthmore error allowing McVicker to score to put Heidelberg back on top 2-1.
But the Garnet were able to answer in the bottom half of the inning scoring three runs to take the lead 4-2.
A failed pick-off move in the top of the eight from Swarthmore allowed Corrigan to come across the plate but was not enough in the end for The Berg.
Heidelberg was able to muster eight hits in the loss compared to Swarthmore's four.
Payton Moser had a nice outing for Heidelberg despite the loss. He went 5.1 innings, giving up three hits and fanning five.
The Student Princes will be back in action tomorrow as they will take on Lebanon Valley. Game time is set for 10 a.m.
