PUNTA GORDA, Florida – After being no-hit by Lebanon Valley College earlier in the week, the Heidelberg University baseball team found that revenge is a dish best served with an extra-inning walk-off victory. Down two in the bottom of the tenth,
Aidan Corrigan and
Camden Farley were the heroes for The Berg, delivering critical hits in the 9-8 victory.
Unable to hold on to a 6-3 lead in the seventh, Heidelberg allowed the Dutchmen to score twice in the top of the 10th. A
Kyle Krummen singled sandwiched between walks by
Andrew Pokley and
Braedy Limke loaded the bases with one out. Corrigan delivered a game-tying two-run single to center. Two batters later, Farley walked it off with a long single over the head of the right fielder.
The win helped Heidelberg improve to 4-6 overall and gave the Student Princes some much-needed momentum heading home.
HU wasted no time finding their first hit on Saturday as Limke rocketed the first pitch in the bottom of the first over the wall in left for his first collegiate home run.
Adam McVicker added another run with a sacrifice fly to right field allowing Corrigan to score.
Ahead 2-1 in the third, HU added three more. After a hit batter and a walk, McVicker singled home
Andrew Cook.
Kyle Krummen kept things going with a two out, bases loaded single that scored two runs for The Berg. The Student Princes led 5-1 after three.
Lebanon Valley scored single runs in the fifth and the sixth, inching to within two.
Krummen, who had a terrific sliding catch down the right field line in the fourth, led off the sixth with a single. He then stole second and advanced on a throwing error, and later scored on a bloop base hit by Corrigan.
A homer and sloppy 'Berg defense allowed LVC to tie the game in the seventh.
Working out of a jam in the ninth, Lebanon Valley kept their momentum going into the 10th. Nico Santoro hit a two-run home run to put the Dutchmen up 8-6 -- setting the stage for the emotional rally in the home half of the inning.
Krummen led all Heidelberg hitters with four hits and two RBI. Farley and Corrigan added two hits apiece.
Corbin Caplin got the start for the Student Princes. He went 5.2 innings, giving up three runs on seven hits, and striking out seven in the win.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
Through 10 games, Krummen is hitting a team-high .367 … Krummen, Cook, Corrigan and McVicker all have eight RBI … Heidelberg leads the OAC with 35 stolen bases, and has only been caught five times.
