Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

WBB tripped up by Brits

DELAWARE, Ohio – After a nearly two-week hiatus without play, the Heidelberg University women's basketball team faced Albion College at the Bishop Classic Hoops for Hope, hosted by Ohio Wesleyan. Led by 10 points from Chloe Gilbert and Ashley Ballard, the Student Princes fell 73-39.

The Student Princes entered the game with some fire, as Elisha Carter, Ballard and Gilbert each found a 3-pointer for an early 9-4 lead. A scoring dry spell would carry over into the second quarter until Gilbert broke out with another shot from deep.

Albion's 27 rebounds to The Berg's 17 contributed heavily to their 34-16 halftime lead.

HU opened up confidently, as Gilbert made a floater off a driving spin move, followed by a 3-pointer from Amari Slaughter. Their momentum was short-lived as Albion matched every 'Berg score and took the last six points of the quarter.

Mya Jones nailed two jumpers in the fourth. Kami Whiteaker closed out the game with a successful and-one layup, adding one from the line with just under 30 seconds to go, 73-39.

Just two rebounds from a double-double, Ballard's ten points tie her career high (vs Muskingum 12/18/21). Ten from Gilbert was her sixth time seeing double this season.

Morgan Altenburger added six rebounds and four points.

The women's basketball team will return to Branch Rickey Arena on Sunday for game two, taking on host Ohio Wesleyan at 1 pm.
