TIFFIN -- Despite 18 points from
Hallie Rogers, a rough third quarter led to a home-court loss for the Heidelberg women's basketball team on Wednesday night. The Student Princes fell to Capital University, 71-44.
Rogers hit three 3-pointers on the night, playing a team-high 34 minutes.
Heidelberg struggled from the floor in the first quarter, allowing Capital to build up a nine-point lead. Â The Berg was 4-for-13 and failed to turn any of their three offensive boards into points. Â
In the second quarter, the teams kept an even 11-11 score. Although momentum seemed to be going in the home court favor, shots still weren't falling. Five different Student Princes chipped in on the tally, including
Sequoia Bradley who hit her second 3-pointer of the game. Meanwhile, five of the Comets' points came from the line as they entered the half with a 31-22 lead.Â
Capital came out of the half picking up six points in the first two minutes. They also ended the quarter with two layups and a 3-pointer, ending 56-36.Â
Sandwiched in between,
Hallie Rogers managed two triples and a layup.
Morgan Altenburger picked up two layups as well, including another from Martin.Â
Rogers tacked on five more in the fourth, finding her third from beyond the arc, closing out the game 71-44.Â
Bradley tallied eight points, Altenburger added seven and Martin had six.Â
On the boards, Martin grabbed eight, followed by
Ashley Ballard with seven while Bradley and Altenburger each added five.Â
The Comets were led by Division II transfer Bri O'Connor, who finished with 24 points.Â
HU managed to out-rebound Capital 37-34.Â
Heidelberg returns to action on Saturday as they host Marietta in the second half on an OAC doubleheader with the Pioneers. Â The women's game will commence 30 minutes after the conclusion of the men's game, which is slated for 2 p.m. Â
