Farley stays hot in Marietta

MARIETTA -- The Heidelberg University baseball team tallied 23 hits on the day, but lost both halves of a doubleheader at No. 1 Marietta College on Friday.  The Pioneers won 16-4 in the opener and 10-8 in the nightcap.

Camden Farley's torrid streak continued with five hits and a home run on the day.

GAME ONE: MC 16-18-0   BERG 4-8-2

Down 2-0 in the fourth, Eric DeVore cracked his sixth home run of the season -- a solo shot to left. Farley followed with a double, then scored on a ground rule double by Seth Scoville.

Marietta regained the lead with a pair of two-run home runs in the fifth.

Heidelberg cut the deficit in half in the sixth.  After loading the bases with walks, Aidan Corrigan hit an RBI fielder's choice and Adam McVicker had an RBI single.

The Pioneers, which hit seven home runs in the game, scored the final 10 runs of the game.

GAME TWO:  MC 10-18-1   BERG 8-15-2

Farley hit a solo home run in the top of the first, putting HU on top.  Heidelberg used three single to plate another run and led 2-0.

The lead was quickly erased by a three-run first for Marietta.  The Pioneers added two more in the second.

Down 5-2, The Berg tied the game in the third.  DeVore doubled and moved to third on a single by Cayden Rollins.  Scoville drove in DeVore with a single up the middle.  With two down, Thomas Sauer sent a double down the left field line, driving in two.

Marietta took a 7-5 lead in the fourth, but HU got half of it back in the sixth when Sauer lifted a solo homer to left.

After the Pioneers got single runs in the sixth and seventh, Heidelberg inched back to within one in the eighth.  Andrew Cook and Corrigan singled, and an error loaded the bases.  Farley legged out an infield hit and Mark grounded out -- each driving in a run.

Unfortunately, Heidelberg was unable to do any more damage in the eighth and ninth.  Marietta added a run in the eighth.
