TIFFIN, Ohio -- The Heidelberg University baseball team snapped a three-game skid with a convincing 8-2 win over Manchester University on Wednesday.
Camden Farley,
Eric DeVore, and
Keaton Mark each had two hits and two RBI on the day.
Heidelberg improved to 7-10 on the season.
Farley led off the bottom of the first with a triple to center field, then scored the game's first run on a sacrifice fly by
Eric DeVore.
In the third,
Robert Hunt ignited a two-out rally with a single to center. He scored on a double to the right center gap by DeVore.
Keaton Mark followed with a hard-hit double into the right field corner that allowed DeVore to trot home.
After threatening in two of the first three innings, Manchester broke through in the fourth. With runners on the corners and no outs, Mark made a running catch near the line and doubled off the runner at first. The runner from third scored easily.
Heidelberg answered quickly.
Seth Scoville lined a home run to left to lead off the home half of the fourth.
DeVore, bolstered by a new walk-up song, legged out a triple to center in the fifth. He scored on a line drive base hit to center.
The Spartans got a run back in the eighth on a double play with runners on the corners.
The Student Princes scored three in the bottom of the eighth.
Alex McRandal drove in Mark with a single to center. With two outs, Farley plated a pair with a single up the middle.
Heidelberg starter
Alec Zoeller (1-0) picked up the win with a five-inning performance. He fanned four and allowed one run.
Payton Moser,
Jackson Armbrecht,
Dylan Matusak, and
John Hassler each threw an inning of relief.
The Student Princes host Otterbein for an OAC doubleheader at Peaceful Valley. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
