TIFFIN – On Saturday afternoon, the Heidelberg University women's soccer team opened up OAC gameplay in a lively fashion. Dominating Muskingum, 3-0, the Berg extended their win streak to four.
Making them fight for it with five yellow cards over a span of two hours – Heidelberg improved to 5-2-2 (1-0 OAC) while Muskingum dropped to 2-5-3 (0-1 OAC).
The Student Princes' first conference goal came in the 13th minute from the freshman
Caitlyn Cross – who was seeing her first collegiate start today. Teaming up for the assist were
Bekah Thomas and
Ainsley Tucker, Tucker's second of her career.
Doubling down, Cross returned to score her second goal of the day with less than eight minutes left in the half.
Audrey Kaufman found her fourth assist of the season, improving to a second-place rank in the OAC.
The final goal came from
Madi Lause who knocked in her fourth of the season just six minutes into the second half. Getting a piece of the action once more, were Cross and Kaufman on the assist.
With an already electric Heidelberg bench, Cross made things more interesting as she had a chance at a hat trick from a beautiful cross from Thomas. Prevailing unlucky, the shot with her head was just wide of the goalpost.
In goal for Heidelberg was
Meredith Bruce who ended the day with eight saves, matching that of Muskingum's Kelly Buck.
In total, Heidelberg outshot the Muskies 26-12 with the shots on goal count tallying 11-8.
After playing at home for five games in a row, the Heidelberg women's team will be on the road Wednesday as they take on John Carroll for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
