TIFFIN, Ohio -- Back on the grass of Hidden Valley Soccer complex for the first time since 2019, the Heidelberg University women's soccer team beat Olivet College 8-0 on Saturday.
The Student Princes improve to 1-1 while the Comets fall to 0-2.
Sophomore
Madi Lause scored four goals en route to the win. Team captain
Audrey Kaufman scored two. Lause's scoring spree was the first hat trick for Heidelberg women's soccer since Erica Campbell scored three goals in the 2018 season-opening game at Transylvania (8/31/18).
Heidelberg was on the board in the fourth minute of play after a cross from
Lexi Foley was deflected by a Comet's defender for an own goal.
The Student Princes then scored three goals in 1:01 of play time. Lause netted her first two goals of the match with an assist from Kaufman. Then Kaufman added a goal with an assist on a cross from
Bekah Thomas.
Kaufman scored the final goal of the half after beating two Olivet defenders and taking the ball down half of the field herself.
Lause struck again in the 19th minute with a 35 yard free kick goal sailing over the hands of the Comet's goalkeeper.
Sophia Jackson assisted Lause on her final goal of the game in the 62nd minute. Jackson played a pass across the middle four Lause to take another long-distance shot to the back of the net.
Victoria Perez put the final nail in the coffin for Olivet in the 81st minute with a goal off of a free kick.
Meredith Bruce played all 90 minutes in goal and recorded two saves.
Heidelberg out-shot the Comets 20-4, and put 16 of those shots on frame.
The Student Princes will travel to Defiance College on Wednesday for a 4 p.m. contest.
