ALLIANCE, Ohio -- The Heidelberg University softball team dropped both halves of a Saturday doubleheader on the road. Mount Union won 8-6 and 9-1.
Heidelberg slipped to 2-6-1 on the year, 1-5 in conference action. Mount Union improved to 9-1.
Leah Bouillon led the Student Princes with three hits, while
Brooke Lewis,
Shelby Miller, and
Emma Dean each collected two.
GAME ONE: MTU 8 BERG 6
Shelby Miller reached on an error, then stole second. She scored on a triple by
Emma Dean, a run that gave Heidelberg an early 1-0 lead.
The Purple Raiders took the lead with two in both the first and the second.
Down 4-1 in the fourth, Heidelberg tied the game. A walk by Dean, sandwiched between singles by
Brooke Lewis and
Leah Bouillon loaded the bases. From there, an error, a fielder's choice and a line out plated three runs.
Mount Union added two in the bottom of the fourth, but Heidelberg responded with two in the fifth.
Kat Brady singled and scored on a double by Miller. Pinch runner
Brooklyn Geiger would later score on a double by Bouillon.
Knotted at six in the middle of the fifth, MTU would plate one in the fifth and the sixth.
Heidelberg brought the tying run to the plate in the seventh, but fell 8-6.
GAME TWO: MTU 9 BERG 1 (Five innings)
As they did in the opener, HU scored a run in the first to take an early lead. Miller scored from second on a base hit by Bouillon.
Mount Union used four hits, two hit batters and two walks to score six runs in the bottom of the second.
The Purple Raiders would add two more in the third and one in the fourth. The mercy rule ended the game in the middle of the fifth.
