Winning streak snapped by Susquehanna

PORT CHARLOTTE, Florida -- A fast start fizzled out as the Heidelberg University baseball team's three-game winning streak was halted by a 5-3 loss to Susquehanna University.  The Student Princes led 3-0 after three innings, but struggled to attack the River Hawk bullpen.

Heidelberg fell back to .500 at 5-5.  Susquehanna improved to 3-4.

Both teams had nine hits, but the River Hawks capitalized on three Heidelberg errors.

Zach Doran started the game with a single to right center, then stole second.  Keaton Mark dropped a double inside the line in left, plating Doran.  After a single through the right side by Eric DeVore, Mark scored on a single by Marc Ochoa.

In the third, Mark walked and Ochoa was hit by a pitch.  Elliot Kurtz followed with a hard-hit single to right center, scoring Mark.

With all the momentum and a 3-0 lead, Heidelberg seemed poised to rattle off another win.  However, Susquehanna was just starting to find its stride.  While reliever Jake Ramezzana (1-0) settled in, the River Hawks offense heated up.

Susquehanna scored two unearned runs off of HU starter Cayden Rollins (0-1) in the fourth and two earned runs in the fifth.

The River Hawks added an unearned run in the 8th.

Ramezzana struck out nine in 4.2 innings of work while limiting Heidelberg to one hit.  Bobby Grigas (Sv., 2) fanned four over the final 2.1 innings, allowing two hits.

In all, Heidelberg struck out 14 times.

Rollins worked 4+ innings, allowing four runs (two earned) on five hits.  He struck out four and walked four.  Mason Metz didn't allow a run in two innings of work, striking out one.  Brady Knizner worked the final two frames, allowing an unearned run.

Heidelberg will look to rebound on Thursday when they face Bridgewater State (0-4) at 11 a.m.
