TIFFIN -- The Heidelberg University women's basketball team was upended by a final score of 90-55 to No. 14 Baldwin Wallace University on Wednesday night.
Throughout the game, The Berg helped to raise awareness for the new Green Dot Program that is being spread around the Heidelberg Community to help promote safety for everyone, while communicating utter intolerance for sexual violence, dating/domestic violence, and stalking. Â
A bucket from
Maddy Crawford tied the game at 9-9 with 3:12 remaining in the first quarter, but a 10-0 run to close out the frame by BW (16-2, 10-1 OAC) all but sealed the direction of the remainder of the game.Â
From then on, the Student Princes (6-12, 2-9) could not sniff a shot at the lead and allowed the Yellow Jackets to pull away for a commanding 35-point victory in the end.Â
Despite HU shooting 54% in the second quarter and 42% from the floor in the fourth quarter, BW showed why they're a top-15 team by shooting a combined 58% through all four quarters.Â
Brittanie Ulmer led the Student Princes in scoring with 16 points. Crawford's 14-point performance moved her into the top-20 in career scoring for Heidelberg as she now stands at 812 points, good for 19th on the list. She surpassed Kim Clippinger's 810-point total from 1988-1991 with a made jumper with 5:18 remaining in the third quarter.Â
A spread out effort provided the additional scoring for Heidelberg with seven other players adding points. Crawford was the team's leading rebounder with five. Additionally, the senior captain swiped five steals and added a blocked shot.Â
For the Yellow Jackets, Kacey Hughes scored a game-high 22 points, while Riley Schill (17), Sydney Diedrich (13), and Hannah Fecht (11) all reached double digits. Lilly Edwards paced the team on the glass with seven boards.Â
During the game, Heidelberg raised awareness for the HU Green Dot program with signage, green clothing, and a halftime speaking from head football coach
Scott Donaldson. The program is designed to create green dots which are any behaviors, choices, or actions that promote safety for everyone and communicates utter intolerance for sexual violence, dating/domestic violence, and stalking. A green dot is intervening in a high-risk situation -- a green dot is looking out for your friends at a party, a bar, or other high-risk situation -- a green dot is hanging a prevention poster in your room -- a green dot is getting your student organization trained on bystander intervention -- a green dot is sharing a link to your local prevention program on your social media -- a green dot is wearing your green dot gear. A green dot is simply your individual choice at any given moment ot make the Heidelberg campus safer. More information can be found on the
Heidelberg Website.Â
The Student Princes will return to action on Saturday away to Wilmington. Tipoff against the Quakers is slated for 3 p.m.Â
