UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio -- The Heidelberg University women's basketball team lost on the road, 65-39 to John Carroll University on Wednesday. On a night when the team struggled to find its range from the floor, only five Student Princes found their way into the scoring column.
The Student Princes dropped to 5-9 overall and 1-6 in the Ohio Athletic Conference.
Maddy Crawford finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds, notching her ninth double-double of the season and 33rd of her career. It was her third career double-double against John Carroll. Additionally, Crawford ran her streak of made foul shots up to 23 -- dating back to December 11.
Alli Adelsperger had a team-high 13 points.
The first quarter went according to plan. Heidelberg closed the quarter on a 9-0 run, spurred by consecutive layups by
Kirsten Kochel. HU led 15-9.
The second quarter did not go as planned. The Berg was 2-for-12 from the floor in the period and was outscored 21-5.
Down 30-20 to start the second half, Heidelberg was still unable to find a rhythm offensively. HU was 6-for-22 in the third and fourth quarters.
John Carroll (12-2, 6-1) had four players reach double figures, led by a 16-point effort by Nicole Heffington. Olivia Nagy tallied a double-double.
The Student Princes return home for Alumni Day on Saturday as part of conference doubleheader. The men's team hosts Muskingum at 2 p.m. and the women's game will follow. Between the games, Heidelberg is set to honor members of the 1989-90 women's basketball team that went to the Final Four.
