DELAWARE, Ohio – A near record-setting performance from
Brittanie Ulmer and the Heidelberg University women's basketball team saw the Student Princes blow past Manchester University on Monday afternoon by a final score of 93-48.
In the rout, Ulmer knocked down 34 points and came within just six points of matching the program record of 40, set by Kathleen Phillips on November 15, 2013. Further flirting with history, Ulmer tied current head coach
Morgan Harrigan for second in the record books with seven made 3-pointers. The school record is nine set last season by
Alyssa Riley on February 2, 2019 vs. Muskingum. Ulmer also becomes the first player to have at least 30 points in a game since Riley scored 31 during her record-setting performance in February.
All-in-all Ulmer led the team with 34 points on 13-of-24 shooting, including 7-of-16 from beyond the arc. Filling out her stat-line Ulmer added six rebounds and an assist.
Further balancing out the Student Prince offense was double-digit scoring performances from the other four starters. The ever-steady
Maddy Crawford tallied her sixth double-double of the season and 31st of her career with a 14-point, 19-rebound showing.
Alli Adelsperger added 15 points on an efficient 5-of-9 shooting.
Brooke Beamer contributed 10 points, seven rebounds, and three assists.
Bailey Walter chipped in 10 points and nine boards.
Leading by 10 at halftime, Heidelberg (4-6) exploded on a 33-5 run across the third quarter alone, ending the period with a 41-point lead over the Spartans (4-6).
Already having a pretty good day shooting the ball, Ulmer connected for 16 points in the third on her own. A sharp 1:17 of play early in the frame highlighted the quarter for the Student Princes. First, Ulmer hit a 3-pointer after receiving a pass from
Brooke Beamer. Then,
Maddy Crawford grabbed back-to-back rebounds and scooped in a layup. After the Crawford play, Ulmer hit another three, this time off an assist from
Alli Adelsperger. The quick spurt of dominance was then capped off on a three-point play from Ulmer. After grabbing the rebound on the defensive end, Ulmer made a layup while being fouled and hit the free throw.
From there, the Student Princes put the game in cruise control and closed out the game to get back in the win column after dropping their last two games.
In all, The Berg held Manchester to a meager 18% shooting the ball, while cashing-in on 47% of their own attempts. In the second half alone, Heidelberg's defense helped hold the Spartans to a troubling 3-of-38 from the floor.
HU also dominated the battle of the glass pulling down 59 rebounds compared to the Spartans 35.
As a program, the 93 points marks the 20th time Heidelberg has scored 90+ points in a game since the 1981-82 season and the most since scoring 98 in a 98-91 win at Oberlin in 2013.
The Student Princes will return to the court after the new year on Saturday, January 4 as Mount Union visits Seiberling Gymnasium for a men's / women's doubleheader. The women will tip off at 1 p.m. and the men will follow at 3 p.m.
