Two second half goals sink 'Berg

TIFFIN -- In their home finale, the Heidelberg University women's soccer team fell to John Carroll University, 2-0, on a rain-soaked afternoon at Hoernemann Stadium.  Despite the final score, the contest was evenly played, with the Student Princes holding a slight edge in shots, 18-16.

Heidelberg dropped to 6-10-1 overall, 2-6 in the Ohio Athletic Conference.  The Blue Streaks improved to 9-5-3, 5-2-1.

For Heidelberg, Erica Campbell led the way with eight shots, three on goal.

After a scoreless first half, JCU got on the board early in the second.  Grace Monnin struck a ball from 25 yards out that snuck inside the left post, past a diving Meredith Bruce.  It was Monnin's sixth tally of the season.

Jaclyn Audino added a goal in the 61st minute on a penalty kick.

Erica Campbell nearly cut the deficit in half moments later.  In the 64th minute, she pelted the crossbar with a half-volley from outside the penalty area on the right side.  Later, Victoria Perez's strike in the 76th minute was saved by a diving Danielle DelGiudice in goal for JCU.

Meredith Bruce made six saves in the loss.  DelGiudice also had six stops.

The regular season wraps up on Saturday on the road at Muskingum (6-11, 1-6).  Game time in New Concord is slated for 5 p.m.  Pending other results from around the league today, the Student Princes still hold a slight chance of earning a berth in next week's six-team OAC Tournament.
